Let’s look at the FAQs, frequently asked questions we get regarding car donations through the Good Wheels program of Goodwill of Silicon Valley.

What Can I donate

Good Wheels accepts car, trucks, RVs, buses, campers, and trailers.

Does my car need to be running?

We accept most cars in any condition, running or not. If your car is not running, we’ll arrange a free tow service to come pick up your vehicle.

Do I need a smog certificate to be able to donate my car?

No, we will handle smog and inspections. We’ll accept your vehicle even if it hasn’t passed smog.

When I donate my car do I have to pay anything?

No, there is no cost to you. We will take care of towing and all of the necessary forms to transfer the vehicle.

What paperwork do I need to donate my car?

We prefer to have the title/pink slip, but we can still accept your donation without one. The representative who picks up your vehicle will handle all of the paperwork.

How much will I receive as a tax deduction?

If Good Wheels can sell your car at retail, your deduction will be the actual sale price of the vehicle.

How quickly can you pick up my car?

We can usually pick up your car within 24-72 hours.

When will I know the tax deductible value of my donation?

We will provide written acknowledgement within 30 days of the sale of the car or, if the car is to be used for a charitable purpose, within 30 days of the donation.

Will every donated car be sold at retail?

No. Depending on the condition of the vehicle, it may not be eligible to be sold at retail.
